World No. 1 and No. 2 to Face Each Other in Wimbledon Final
The finalists of Wimbledon, held in London with a total prize fund of £44.7 million, have been confirmed.
Following the semifinal matches on Centre Court, the men’s singles final will feature ATP world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz of Spain and world No. 2, defending champion Novak Djokovic of Serbia.
This will be the third meeting between the two players. Their previous two encounters are tied at 1-1.
In the semifinals, Alcaraz defeated world No. 3 Daniil Medvedev of Russia 6-3, 6-3, 6-3, while Djokovic overcame world No. 8 Jannik Sinner of Italy 6-3, 6-4, 7-6.
Alcaraz has reached a Grand Slam final for the second time in his career. The 20-year-old Spaniard has now won 11 consecutive matches and recorded his 46th victory of the season. The reigning US Open champion will play his seventh final of the year, having already won five titles in 2023.
Meanwhile, 23-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic has reached his fifth consecutive Wimbledon final. Having won his previous four finals at the tournament, Djokovic can extend his Grand Slam tally to 24 titles with another victory and break his own record.
The winner of the final will become the new world No. 1 in the ATP rankings.
In the women’s singles event, the semifinal stage has also concluded. The final will feature world No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus against world No. 8 Ons Jabeur of Tunisia.
