Venus Williams Receives Wild Card for National Bank Open

Seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams has been awarded a wild card into the main draw of next month's National Bank Open in Toronto.

The former World No. 1 will compete in Toronto for the first time since 2019 and is set to make her return to WTA Tour singles competition for the first time since August 2021.

Williams most recently appeared at Wimbledon, where she partnered Britain's Jamie Murray in the mixed doubles event. The American is a 41-time WTA singles champion, a five-time Wimbledon winner, and an Olympic gold medalist.

Her sister Serena Williams is also on the tournament's entry list and could make her first appearance at a North American hard-court event in two years. Serena is a three-time National Bank Open champion, having last competed in Toronto in 2019.
