Tennis.az Founder Zaur Bayramov Gives an Interview to Sportsman Magazine
Zaur Bayramov, founder of Tennis.az, has given an extensive interview to Sportsman Magazine, where he discussed the development of tennis in Azerbaijan, the history of Tennis.az, its major projects, international achievements, and future plans.
Bayramov explained that Tennis.az was established in 2007 to help amateur players find suitable opponents and has since grown into one of Azerbaijan's largest amateur tennis communities, with nearly 500 members.
He emphasized that the club's mission is to promote tennis, encourage a healthy lifestyle, maintain a player ranking system, and strengthen friendships within the tennis community.
The interview also highlighted Tennis.az projects such as the Tennis.az League, Gardashlar Mebel Doubles Championship, Republic Day Cup, Victory Day Cup, and Mobitek Cup. According to Bayramov, the Tennis.az League, launched in 2018, has become Azerbaijan's only amateur tennis league with international status and has now reached its 50th anniversary season.
Bayramov also spoke about Azerbaijan's success at the ITF Masters Tour MT200 UAE TOPSPIN tournament in Dubai, where the country was represented by ten players. Marina Abramenko won the 50+ singles title, while Marina Abramenko and Farah Shamsiyeva claimed the 40+ doubles championship.
He identified the shortage of tennis courts as one of the biggest challenges facing the sport in Azerbaijan, stressing the need for new facilities as interest in tennis continues to grow.
