Serena Williams Brings Legendary Career to an End
Tennis legend Serena Williams has officially retired from professional tennis.
The 40-year-old American played the final match of her career at the US Open, losing to Australia's Ajla Tomljanović 7–5, 6–7 (4–7), 6–1 in the third round.
During her remarkable 27-year career, Williams won 23 Grand Slam singles titles and 39 Grand Slam titles overall, in addition to four Olympic gold medals. She is widely regarded as one of the greatest players in tennis history.
Before the tournament, Williams had announced that the US Open would be her final event. She defeated Danka Kovinić and Anett Kontaveit before ending her career in the third round.
