Australian Open: Tommy Paul Reaches First Grand Slam Quarterfinal

American Tommy Paul has reached the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in his career.

Paul secured his place in the last eight of the Australian Open by defeating Spain's Roberto Bautista Agut 6–2, 4–6, 6–2, 7–5.

His quarterfinal opponent will be fellow American Ben Shelton. Speaking about the matchup, Paul said:

"I'm really happy to be playing another American in the quarterfinals."

The Paul–Shelton quarterfinal is scheduled for January 25 at 4:00 AM (Baku time).

The strong performance of American players in Melbourne has also been reflected in the ATP Rankings. The updated rankings now feature 10 American players inside the Top 50: Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe, Sebastian Korda, Tommy Paul, Jenson Brooksby, John Isner, Ben Shelton, J.J. Wolf, Reilly Opelka and Brandon Nakashima.
