World No. 1 tennis player retires

Three-time Grand Slam champion and former world No. 1 women’s tennis player Ashleigh Barty has announced her retirement from professional tennis at the age of 25.

The Australian athlete shared the news in a statement published on the official website of the Women’s Tennis Association.

She said that it is now time to pursue other goals:

“I’ve been playing tennis since I was a little girl. When I was 18, I took a long break from the sport. At that time, I simply wanted to live a normal teenage life and enjoy it. Tennis fulfilled all of my dreams and even more. I think the time has come to put the rackets away.”

It should be noted that Ashleigh Barty won French Open in 2019, Wimbledon Championships in 2021, and the Australian Open this year.
